Nude weekend at Ao Nuan on Koh Samet

This trip was the FIRST EVER trip organized by Naturist Association Thailand to stay at a beach resort which we had rented for a private weekend. As it turned out, several visitors straying in from neighboring Tub Tim beach to our Ao Nuan beach were delighted to be able to join in and also get to swim in the nude and have a full-body tan on the beach.

Most of the fifteen members – plus one probie 🙂 – went on Saturday 17 October 2015 by boat directly from Ban Phe pier with White Shark speedboats to Ao Nuan beach, where we had booked the whole bungalow resort for the weekend. With us we carried three banners that as the first thing were strung up by the entry points to the beach informing “stray” visitors that we were Naturist Association Thailand and if they proceeded, they would encounter people without clothes and we requested them respectfully not to take photos.

Mrs Oy, the owner of the resort, was a bit nervous as this was a first for her resort as well although they frequently had some visitors being nude in the far end of the beach and were OK with this. But soon we were all relaxed, management, staff and naturists. All naturists behaved with perfect respect and wore towels or sarongs when approaching the restaurant.

Most popular activity was obviously swimming or playing in the water and sunbathing or just lounging in the shade under a big beach tree – but some members were active with sports and played badminton and Frisbee both on Saturday and Sunday.

After sundown, we had planned to sit on the beach around a beach fire, but the majority voted for the convenience of a grill next to a big table, where we could all sit together. So we grilled our sausages there and had them with bread and sauces and perfectly cooked potato salad which Judy had cooked and brought along.

We went to bed no too late because we had an appointment to meet at 5.45 next morning when the sun would come up to do yoga in the sunrise. Half of the members managed to get up – among others because Gregers by accident woke up a few of them – including the resort owner – in his attempt to find the bungalow where our volunteer yoga instructor stayed.

20151018_061601webA young German couple – FKK like so many nice Germans – had stayed up all night on the beach and joined the fun.

Later, a steady stream of visitors came in – which kept Bruce busy approaching them and explaining why the “unthinkable nudity” in Thailand was not so unthinkable after all if it was practiced our way with consideration – and actually with a vast support base from Thai members. As mentioned earlier, some of them were pleased to go nude as well.

Only when we packed up to leave did we find out that the many visitors were coming in because the resort had removed our banners! They felt that they kept visitors away…  Luckily we had no strong negative reactions by the unsuspecting visitors being suddenly and without warning faced with our nudity.

There is no doubt that we all had a great time. And it was a break-through event for Naturist Association Thailand that we must repeat at other places of a similar suitability. But if we did this again next month, there is also no doubt that several of the participants would feel that have been there and done that – and would not join again this time. Maybe some other time..

The biggest achievement of the weekend is therefore probably, that we initiated the Ao Nuan Bungalow resort to be a naturist friendly resort, where members can go by themselves and with similar discretion enjoy nudity if they only book the bungalow in the far end of the beach.

thanks for sharing the experience, Greg! you all definitely had great fun that weekend, Hope I can join the outings next time.
just one question from me: since the group was nude in the public place (in this case beach), would Thai authority could make a fuss or are we securely protected legally ?

Thank you for the story.
Felt happy that some ‘stray” visitors actually joins in and to be nude.
Interesting to note that some “Non Members” joins in for the yoga at dawn.(morning)
Most important is that all participants went home with happy memories and safe.
Thank You to the Ao Nang resort’s owner for their willingness to try.
It’s worth to mention Thank You to the local police for not making a big issue out of
Naturalist Tourism and not a single warrant of arrest and Interpol alert.
Do hope that there are some remotely located beach resorts which are situated on Private Property
do try out this segment of Naturalist Tourism .
For all i do know, nudist are the best behave tourist and does not cause any ruckus.
We don’t even litter or leave garbage and broken bottles on the beach.
Thank You.

So the official objection is to the curbed public access, and not to the nudity?
