The Naked Jungle Run – what happened?
Many members have asked what really happened with the Naked Jungle Run? Why was it suddenly cancelled?
Well, it all started with an article in South China Morning Post about how naturism was booming in Asia. It contained a few misunderstandings. Most grave was the error that all the resorts were property owned by Gregers Moller(!) But otherwise it was a positive article.
This interview was then copied and pumped up by a other media around the world and eventually also hit the Thai media. Here, the focus was on the Naked Jungle Run. The newspapers and TV stations were telling people that we were organizing a run in the nude in full public view in Wang Nam Khiaow. On the evening of 21 September, it was on three TV channels and in several printed and online media with a negative attitude to the event.
We were fast in announcing that we had cancelled the event and this cancellation was deemed important enough to be broadcast on National TV in the morning news on 22 September with a note to viewers that they would no longer have to worry about this.
Crisis was over for now, but the attention also had a silver lining. Cocconut Bangkok made an in depth interview with Disraporn, where she was able to explain and deal with most of the misunderstandings created by the other media.
It was also positive, that the news that naturism or nudism was now available in Thailand was widely shared on Thai social media. It was a golden opportunity to explain once again what Thai naturism is about. So also here we in hindsight came out pretty well.
We also took the opportunity to explain again what naturism is all about.
However, we will carry through with most of the original plan. We passed deadline on Monday and we are 24 members, who will have a great weekend. Only modification is, that we we will wear shorts and other running gear when we run.
